Nautical

I had every intention of creating a "modern nautical" scene, inspired by some lovely marine blue chevron paper from the Paper Source, but not sure I succeeded. The vision was different in my head and I don't think I quite articulated it. I had bought some cool ocean life pushpins on clearance (white modern sand dollars, starfish, and seashells) and was convinced I would use them here somehow, but it just didn't work, and things fell off into a different direction. Does this ever happen to you? Please tell me it does!

In any case, it was lots of fun to put together!

By the way...if you like following this blog and do it via Google Reader, you now need to follow me using a different reader such as Bloglovin' or Feedly since Google Reader is kaput as of today, July 1. If you use Blogger like I do, your dashboard will still work as a reader for the blogs you follow, but you still might look into an alternate reader. I signed up for Bloglovin' and it was a quick click of a button to move all of the blogs I follow over to the new reader. See you there!!

Credits: Couch is vintage Brio; side table is Re-ment; office chair is Petite Princess; desk is brinca dada; plant is Playmobil; rug is a coaster from Crate & Barrel; circle wall art are also coasters that I picked up in Palm Springs; light is a pull chain from Lowes; wall covering is from the Paper Source, as is the flooring. The time it took me: 57 minutes

  1. A Very effective display! Love the hard boiled egg side table! Yes it does seems that the One thing that originally inspires will often get left by the wayside as other ideas develop off of it. You can often find yourself with a Entirely Different finished project than what it was that you had originally envisioned. Nothing to do except go with it, as you have and enjoy the great results!

  2. I always have a vision in mind then it just disappears as I play around with the bits and bobs at hand! Love your setting anyway...great job! That egg side table is a hoot!

  5. That always happens to me. I have an idea and it usually ends up something different. I love the scene. It like a modern boho chic surfer lives there.

  6. I like it, even though it isn't what you imagined in your head I think it's turned out rather well.

  7. Wow! You have some great stuff in there. That egg table and lucite chair are my favorite.
You are better than me. Most times I just sit down and pick through my stash until something jumps out at me. LOL

  9. Dear Chris
    You asked our opinion- So:
You have a very distinct color palette which always has a strong presence of yellow.
Nautical requires ( in my opinion) white, sand and different shades of blues from baby blue to turquoise.May be next time?
    Best Regards
    Neomi

  10. It's so cute! I fell in love with the coffee table. I have never appreciated Playmobil, so I was surprised at the beautiful plant. Well done!

  11. Camr more off as retro and not nautical. Just a mislabel but save for the cactus, it looks great!
