I would definitely file myself under "obsessed" when it comes to washi tape. I've used it many times over the years, in a bath scene, for swaps, in an office, and in many other cases. I collect it like crazy. So, of course I picked up a stack of the new adhesive 6 x 6" sheets when I saw them in the Paper Source this weekend. (I had seen 12 x 12" sheets at the NYIGF in January, so I have been waiting for them to show up in the stores.)
At $12.95 for 20 sheets, it's not cheap, but I'd say it is worth it to get all inspired by the patterns and possibilities. I also picked up some chevron burlap and a scene was born. In addition to covering the back of a couch and the dining table, I used some tape as a rug border. I easily gravitated to the red as a complement to the chevron burlap.
Here are a few more shots from my washi workout!

The time it took me: 1 hour, 10 minutes
It's really great! =D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Eliana!
DeleteI like adhesive paper.
ReplyDeleteThis paper is perfect for your table.
Greetings, Faby
The paper worked really well on the table. No bumps! :)
DeleteEsta genial, es único, me encanta.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Yolanda
Gracias, Yolanda!
DeleteThat paper is a cool addition to the mini decor arsenal. The table reminds me of the covers we had in the 60's/70's to protect work surfaces. It makes a lovely splash of colour =0)
ReplyDeleteThe paper does feel like a weapon: washi this! washi that! rip! pow! It's funny, my original conception for that table was a craft work space, but too lazy to get out my mini scissors, mini glue, mini cutting map...!
DeleteI love it, it's totally Chic!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steinworks! Glad you like it!
DeleteThe colors and patterns are fab! I'll be keeping my eyes open for some of these!
ReplyDeleteDo keep your peepers open for the paper. It's fab! And I am sure they will come out with other patterns.
DeleteThat's such a great tip! I didn't even know Washi paper existed! :-D
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Glad I could introduce you to it. You'll get hooked, believe me :)
DeleteI like the ease of the paper. I kept looking to see where the sofa cover was. The back looked like fabric, not paper! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteMe too. It's generally very easy to work with. The trouble is knowing when to stop taping!!!
DeleteLove your scene and your table makeover. Your table reminds me of some tables that I just saw today in the West Elm catalog. I bought some of this tape and hadn't figured out how to use it. I will "borrow" your idea!
ReplyDeleteWhy, thank you! Always happy to emulate west elm :) Let me know what you do with the tape!!
DeleteOh dear, that's very tempting...
ReplyDeleteBut first, I need to use the scraps of adhesive vinyl I was given by a colleague who has a business 'wrapping' cars...
OOOOHHH...I like the sound of that vinyl!! Hope to see the results soon.
DeleteOne of the best things about blogging is the wonder of learning something NEW! Until now, I never knew what Washi tape was or anything about it. I really appreciate this information and will keep on the look out for some so that I can experiment with it. I love the way you have used it for the various areas of your mini dwelling. Everything looks so well put together and Move in Ready!

You are welcome! It's fun to expose people to new ideas in mini-land. You will find washi tape in stationery stores, and of course in lots of craft stores too. The Paper Source has a few varieties, but I have always had better luck in a Japanese book store in New York City, Kinokuniya. http://www.kinokuniya.com/us/
DeleteMuy diferente, muy bien logrado
ReplyDeleteUn sobresaliente a tu trabajo.
El color se ve bien, tonos cálidos bien armonizados
Me alegro de que te gusten los colores y el estilo! Creo que podría vivir en esta habitación por un tiempo :)
DeleteWashi tape is sticky right? And that's why you like it? Would hot glue and scrap book paper be a good substitute? That is much, much cheaper...
ReplyDeleteAlso, amazing dining room furniture! The table design is awesome. Did you make the living room furniture yourself?
The adhesive on the back would make placing these down very smooth. I feel anything like hot glue would have a higher chance of seeing bumps and what not.
ReplyDeleteSo these look great! Glad everything turned out the way you wanted! Thanks for sharing.
