Second Time Around

Ever go to rummage or estate sales and look intently around for a buy? You do a loop through the aisles and weave through the tables and think you've seen all that is there...but then you think to take a second look, and poof! You've found a little treasure!

I'm getting to my point here: this desk in my Gottschalk room box. It's actually not really a miniature desk; I  cannot tell you what it was intended for, though. Perhaps some sort of napkin holder, or other household contraption? I found it at a local church rummage sale this weekend and picked it on that second time around the housewares room for a cool quarter (half off the original price of fifty cents)!

I've used the humble little "desk" here with a very sophisticated piece by Patie of minisx2 on Etsy. You might recall from this post that my first Zig Zag shelving arrived broken...I used it anyway because it is so awesome, but Patie whipped up a replacement one with an extra set of gray-greenish sliding panels! It is lovely, no?

Do you like to mix "high" with "low"?

  1. What a bargain. The desk looks really at home with the rest of your pieces. Yup, Patie's work rocks!

    1. The "desk" does fit! I was considering papering it on top or on the sides...I might try that another time.

  2. What a great idea! I do this at the hardware store all of the time! Also, I pick up the little "salts" (small cut glass bowls that use to be used for salt at a dining table) and use them for fancy bowls, filling them with "fruit" and other things. Love the look!

  3. I'm a sucker for red, so I love the colors in this room! It's so soothing, but not boring.

Was it just a happy coincidence that the sliding doors on the new shelving unit match the wallpaper so well?

    Very cool!

    1. I definitely wanted to pick up on the primary colors in the curtains with some red. I honestly did not realize the doors would match the wallpaper so well until I started taking some photos...they started to "disappear." So, a coincidence indeed!

  4. What a lovely room.

It's amazing the things you can find that were meant to be something else and end up miniature furniture XD

I always think I need to have more of an eye for that kind of thing. It makes me feel like I lack imagination XD

    1. Thanks! I feel like I need to look a little less sometimes -- it's an obsession! I sometimes lose sight of what I am supposed to be doing! :)

  6. What a lucky find! The "desk" really works in this room.

It has been my experience that the longer you are into miniatures, the more you look at the world with an eye toward 1:12 (or your scale of choice). I found a bullet casing left by a hunter on our road and thought "plant stand? umbrella stand?". Can you say "obsession"? ;-)

    1. Yes, I think your eye gets really trained to seeing the possibilities! Did you end up using the casing??

  8. Fab find, lady! it reminds me of the chunky console table that West Elm used to sell in their old school signature chocolate shade. The price was perfect!

    1. The price was awesome, I will say. I walked out of that sale three dollars poorer but mighty happy. Wish I had more time to stroll around, but had to make tracks!
