Rad Pad Progress

The long weekend is over and one of my goals was to make some progress on my Rad Pad for the "I'm a Giant" challenge. Well, I wallpapered the exterior and figured out the layout, so I think I am on my way. I need to add wallpaper and flooring to the inside rooms and furnish fully and accessorize, but here is where I am now:

I want to add some level of realism, so I need to figure out a stairwell. A bit stumped right now; would love a lucite one, but not sure I can swing it. I also have a catwalk in progress to connect the two upper levels, using a slab of plywood covered in a Kunta placemat from Crate & Barrel (the Kunta is now discontinued, but it is close to the Jakarta). Will share more on that soon -- wish me luck!

By the way, I am spreading the word about a great dollhouse for sale: a vintage VERO from the 1960s! I actually have this one in my collection, and it is a fantastic find. Mandy from Germany is selling her pristine one, and I have posted pictures on the Call of the Small Facebook page. If you are interested, I can connect you with Mandy. Email me at call-small(at)call-small(dot)com for more information.

  2. I'm just seeing this now, but the folder holder room is a wonderful idea! And it works very well too! And the clear folder is a great way to make windows too! (yes I get easily excited)

I hope to be able to work on mine next WE, i was in London since Thursday and a huge amount of work waiting at home, so I'm starting to get nervous about the project ^^

  3. You've made great progress and so very creative. I'm so glad you decided to move the bathroom. I really like it there. The skywalk also sounds like a great idea.

  6. Thanks, Kathi! Glad you like the bathroom...people seem to approve of the move. I also wanted to shield it from the main floor; I think the placemat does the trick ;)

  10. The house is looking beautiful. It's really cool how you re-purpose everyday items for a miniature world. I have a suggestion for steps. Do you think you could create something appropriate with these acrylic cubes? http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=136&

Otherwise, something in wood to match the catwalk would look good.

  14. Hi, Neomi! Sorry to disappoint you about the exterior, but I did want it to have some level of realism as a house. I do miss the clear walls, but could not figure out the best way to cover some and not all of it. :)

  15. You're welcome. :) I hope it works out.

As for the exterior, it's probably a little strange being able to see light coming through the "bricks" at this in-progress stage. Once you've papered the interior, the exterior should look more solid. I also liked the open view on the top floor (before "bricking"). It reminded me of a beach mansion with a wall of glass for enjoying the ocean view. But I understand your point about how it can be tricky to make things just so.

  16. Thanks, FL Mom! I am now toying with handling the top floor differently, perhaps having it open on front. But, I'm concerned about the balance of brick on the rest of the house...need to decide soon!!!
